This design was inspired by the romance and adventure of early aviation — a time when flying was still new, daring, and filled with wonder. I wanted to capture that nostalgic feeling of open skies, propellers humming, and the freedom of travel, while keeping the piece warm and personal as a birthday celebration.

The soft, weathered tones and map-style background give the card a sense of journey and history, almost like a page from an old pilot’s logbook. The layered planes are deliberately raised to create movement and depth, so the scene feels alive — as though the aircraft are soaring right out of the card. Texture plays a big role here too, with the contrast between the smooth sky, detailed linework, and dimensional elements adding that tactile quality I love working with.

The banner-style birthday greeting grounds the design and adds a handcrafted, celebratory finish, balancing the adventure theme with a heartfelt message.
