Welcome

Michael’s Card Art is where paper becomes poetry. Through layered textures, gentle dimension, and thoughtful detail, I transform everyday moments into handcrafted works of art. Each 3D card is a small story — shaped by colour, feeling, and the beauty I see in the world around me.

These creations are more than greetings; they are keepsakes, designed to be held, treasured, and remembered — little pieces of art that carry meaning from my hands to yours.

About Me

“Michael’s Card Art was born from a time of recovery, where I discovered the healing power of creativity. What began as a simple curiosity grew into a passion for designing 3D greeting cards that celebrate colour, texture, and storytelling. Today, each piece I create is both an expression of life’s beauty and an invitation for others to be inspired.”

What I create

At Michael’s Card Art, every piece begins as an exploration of texture, light, layering and story. Paper is never just paper — it is surface, structure, temperature, and possibility. Whether framed, gifted, recreated at home, or commissioned for a special occasion, each creation is designed with intention and crafted with care.

What's on my desk this week...

Each week, my desk becomes a studio of ideas in motion — layered cardstock, texture, vellum and evolving designs taking shape. What’s On My Desk This Week is your behind-the-scenes look at the creative process at Michael’s Card Art. Many of these projects inspire my technique-rich workshops and detailed Maker’s Companion Guides. If something sparks you, join a class, download a guide, and create alongside me.

What's on my desk this week...

This week, my desk is a little woodland wonderland. I’ve been working on a layered tree design that captures the magic of nature — complete with delicate blossoms, a textured trunk, and a sweet little deer family nestled at the base. It’s one of those projects that feels like a story unfolding on paper.

Project Highlight

The centrepiece is a hand-inked tree, layered with foliage in soft greens and accented with rich, berry-toned blossoms. I love how the die-cut details bring depth and life to the card, almost like you could step right into the scene. The woodland background frames it perfectly, creating that sense of serenity and gratitude.

Technique Tip
Bringing Bark to Life

Take a close look at the tree — notice how realistic and textured the bark appears? That effect didn’t happen by accident. I coloured the trunk in a very specific order, layering tones carefully to mimic the depth and irregularity of real bark. Then came the secret step: I gave the whole image a “small drink”. This treatment blended the colours just enough to soften the edges and bring the bark to life with a natural, organic finish.Curious about the exact order and what a “small drink” really means? 🌳✨Join me on my Facebook Live next Thursday at 11am (AEST), where I’ll walk you through the process step by step. It’s easier than you think, and the results are truly magical!

Workshops and Online Classes

In my classes, we explore ways to arrange elements to create eye-catching designs, discover ways to colour elements using a range of tools and techniques so they truly pop, and ways to use such things as embossing powders, embellishments as elegant accents that enhance a design without overpowering it.

It’s all about learning how small design choices can make a big difference.

There’s a wide range of skills and ideas to discover, shared in a friendly, supportive space where creativity is encouraged, and personal style can truly grow.
