This week my desk has taken on a quieter, more intimate feel as I’ve been working on this birthday card inspired by comfort, home, and small everyday moments. The soft background tones, layered furnishings, and gentle metallic accents create a scene that feels calm and familiar—almost like stepping into a cosy living room just as a message arrives.

The focal story sits in the lower half of the card, where two armchairs frame a small dog waiting patiently between them. It’s a simple scene, but one that instantly feels personal and warm. The layered envelope and sentiment tags above hint at a birthday message being delivered, while the curtain element adds height and softness, balancing the composition and drawing the eye upward.

Technique Tip

When working with die-cut furniture and figures, lightly ink around the edges before assembling. This subtle shading adds definition and prevents pale pieces from blending into the background. Keeping the inking soft and uneven helps the elements feel more natural and lived-in rather than flat or overly precise.

Projects like this remind me that not every card needs bold colour or busy detail—sometimes it’s the quiet scenes that speak the loudest.
