This week my desk has been filled with soft florals, warm neutrals, and a touch of vintage charm. I’ve been working on this birthday card that brings together botanical elements, gentle metallic accents, and a central teacup motif, creating a design that feels both elegant and comforting.

Project Highlight

The heart of this card is the layered focal panel featuring stacked teacups framed by a soft, scalloped edge and musical script background. Surrounding florals and foliage wrap around the centre, guiding the eye in a gentle circular flow. The butterfly detail adds lightness and movement, while the muted colour palette keeps everything harmonious and calm.

Technique Tip

When working with multiple die-cut florals and leaves, ink each piece individually before assembly. Vary the pressure and colour intensity to create subtle differences between elements—this prevents the layers from blending together and adds depth without overwhelming the design. Finish by lightly highlighting raised details with metallic wax or gilding to catch the light.

This project was a lovely reminder that layering doesn’t have to be loud—soft colour, thoughtful placement, and texture can create just as much impact.
